Mongoose announces new RuneQuest

Matthew Sprange says Mongoose Publishing will be doing a new edition of RuneQuest next year. Comedy ensues. Sprange is active in both discussions and has confirmed that the system will not be D20-esque nor the original game's system, but rather a new creation that aims for the old feel. I have not yet found anything explaining how the future of Issaries and HeroQuest fits into all this, but I am reluctant to spend work time reading all 35 or so pages of forum chatter. Report back if you find anything.

UPDATE: okay, so I missed it. Greg Stafford confirms that Mongoose has licensed Glorantha, and that the system will be essentially the same as the original game's system, just rewritten from scratch to skirt copyright. That could get interesting.

Interesting and open to litigation if they're not careful. Shades of SCO Group v. IBM. When lauding a new product, I certainly wouldn't want the term, "skirting copyright" even said in joke during the conceptual design stage!

That might be the case if any of the interested parties had two cents to rub together.....

Chris, that may be true but you don't have to have money to initiate a lawsuit or to get a lawyer who thinks he can cover his fees from a legal settlement.

I'm not familiar with the companies involved but, if they no longer legally exist as companies, you're correct.

James, I was being sarcastic more than anything ;)

Sorry, I'm obviously humor-impaired. I completely missed it!

Why do we need another rules version, can't Mongoose just start producing high quality supplements and keep Glorantha alive as opposed to starting RQ v0.000.

We 'll be suffering from the Traveller syndrome soon.

GM: What version of the game you like to play, sir/madam? I have 7 different flavours...

Player: Oh Neo Modern with a Classical feel

Gm: Ah, lets try the d20 version, suits you sir
