WizKids has announced the results of the 2004 World Championships of Mage Knight and MechWarrior (see the press release below). Funny how this is being announced on the same day that WotC's 11th Annual Magic: The Gathering World Championship kicks off out here in San Francisco. A couple of OgreCave staff are headed over there to check out the scene, by the way, and we'll have some sort of report back from them a bit later.

Mage Knight and MechWarrior World Champions Crowned

September 1, 2004 (SEATTLE) — WizKids Inc., makers of the best-selling MechWarrior®, Mage Knight™, and HeroClix® collectable miniatures games (CMGs), is proud to announce the winners of the 2004 Mage Knight and MechWarrior World Championships, which were held at this year’s Gen Con in Indianapolis. Sascha Koch of Germany earned the Mage Knight world champion title for the second consecutive year, and Marc-Andre Leblanc of Canada was crowned MechWarrior world champion.

“It’s amazing to see the level of excitement among these great players,” said Jordan Weisman, WizKids® CEO. “The amount of sportsmanship and skill is truly inspiring.” Both events featured about 20 players from a dozen countries, and each lasted four days — the entire length of the Gen Con convention.

The culmination of the Path to Glory WizKids Approved Play program, the two World Championships tested the players in the realms of strategy, creating armies on the fly, using preselected armies, and constructing traditional armies. On the last day of competition, the field was narrowed to eight players for both games, with Koch and Leblanc rising to the top after six grueling rounds of play.
