Avalon Hill plans new game that doesn't have an old game's name

Betrayal at House on the Hill is a tile-based casual game with a haunted-house theme, set for release within the blast radius of Halloween. It's a little unclear from the press release whether this is a reprint or not, but I don't think it is. You're welcome to correct me in the comments (like I can stop you - wait, I can!). I like the sound of the secret-defector mechanic; one member of the party is trying to nail the others, which could be nicely Werewolf-y. Also juuust a bit reminiscent of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer board game that Hasbro did a few years ago - great game, and could be adapted nicely to a tiled board. Hmmmm... I'm scheming, this is my scheming face... eh, whatever. Details when you hit Read More.

Below is press release copy from AH/Wizards/Hasbro

BETRAYAL AT HOUSE ON THE HILL™ will deliver thrills and chills

RENTON, Wash. - This September, Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS), will release the first-ever tile game with a great horror theme from the classic Avalon Hill line of board games. BETRAYAL AT HOUSE ON THE HILL quickly builds suspense and excitement as players explore a haunted mansion of their own design, encountering spirits and frightening omens that foretell their fate. With an estimated one hour playing time, BETRAYAL AT HOUSE ON THE HILL is ideal for parties, family gatherings or casual fun with friends.

BETRAYAL AT HOUSE ON THE HILL is a tile game that allows players to build their own haunted house room by room, tile by tile, creating a new thrilling game board every time. The game is designed for three to six people, each of whom plays one of six possible characters. Secretly, one of the characters betrays the rest of the party, and the innocent members of the party must defeat the traitor in their midst before it’s too late! BETRAYAL AT HOUSE ON THE HILL will appeal to any game player who enjoys a fun, suspenseful, and strategic game.

BETRAYAL AT HOUSE ON THE HILL includes detailed game pieces, including character cards, pre-painted plastic figures, and special tokens, all of which help create a spooky atmosphere and streamline game play. The suggested manufacturer’s retail price is $40.00.

BETRAYAL AT HOUSE ON THE HILL is part of Wizards of the Coast’s Avalon HillŪ line of games, which includes AXIS & ALLIES, RISK 2210 A.D., DIPLOMACY and many others.

Wizards of the Coast, Inc., a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE:HAS), is a worldwide leader in the trading card game and tabletop roleplaying game categories, and a leading developer and publisher of game-based entertainment products. Sounds like it could be fun. Unfortunately, it's for 3+ players. I wish more 2+ player games would be released so that the wife and I could play them. Scream Machine, for example, only has two player rules added as an afterthought. And I'd so love to try Scream Machine.

The game looks fun from what little information is available. The title, however, has to go. CLUNKY!
