Online tools for your dead-CCG obsession
CCG Workshop is an online purveyor of the cardboard crack of the past, and allegedly the future. Games currently playable online include DoomTrooper (if I’d known, I might not have spent five dollars on those five pounds of cards over the weekend), Wildstorms, BattleTech CCG, Kult, NetRunner (yaaaaay!), Shadowrun CCG, and the deadest of them all: Mythos. Those of you who don’t share my obsession with the lamented and/or lamentable CCGs of our history might be interested in the extensible gaming engine that allows for original, new games. They may be walking the line between good and evil when it comes to copyright, even though the games they’re serving up thus far are no longer in print - and it’s ambiguous as to whether they’ll be charging for their service in the future. So download now or frown loads later.

Seems cool. Too bad it’s Wintel only. Leaves out us Mac folk.

Yeah I was very enthused when I first found this site, until I found that it’s Wintel only. Is there an app for Mac OS X that helps facilitate playing CCGs online?

You know, I’ve been wondering: why is it that paper-gaming culture online seems to have a disproportionate number of Mac users? Are we more affluent? Or are we just older?

Hmm… Well, I’m a PC owner myself, but the Mac has always been *WAY* better for graphics, video, printing and prepress work - and I think a majority of the RPG publishing shops use Macs almost exclusively. Maybe that has something to do with it? =)

Yea, a Mac / Linux / Platform-Independent solution would be nice and I know for a fact that a Java client is being worked on. Also, I know that CCGW’s gatlingEngine works in VirtualPC and WINE, but the performance is just not the same… Please feel free to post on CCGW’s forums about wanting a Mac/platform independent version.
