Audio Report: James Szubski of WizKids

In which the WK director of brand management is authorized to discuss whatever upcoming products he wants. And he pretty much does. He doesn't out-and-out announce anything, but... let's say that if you don't think you could ever get excited about clicky games again, well, you might wanna listen to this (despite a couple of audio problems). It's hot stuff. We've got another show ready and are clearing out our backlog fast, so subscribe now.

Palladium embezzlement fire sale is go

For goodness' sake. Some bastard allegedly embezzled and stole a bunch of money from Palladium, and now Kevin Siembieda has made an appeal to Rifts fans to save the company by buying limited edition prints. The saddest thing here, to my eye, is the testimony on Siembieda's part that he's done right by the fans by keeping prices low - if those fans were willing to pay what small-print-run specialty books cost, maybe he wouldn't be in such dire straits. Anyway, if you've a mind to, go help out one of the only game companies (according to friends of the Cave) who ever paid their freelancers on time.

The awesomest new-style RPG you can learn in 90 seconds

Crispin Glover Is Here To Kill Me. (There's two games on the page, scroll down for this one.) Found via the author's post at Story Games. Yeah, it's basically a Baron Munchausen variant; I think we can stand to have a handful more of those given how many D&D variants there are.

Audio Report: GTS wrap-up, finally

At long last, Chris' near-immediate GTS post-show impressions claw their way loose from our production entanglements. It's still a pretty eye-opening show, and we still want to hear from you about that big roleplaying question. Bring it!

GAMA versus Television. And... fight!

GAMA has announced its first TV-Turnoff Week, coming up fast at April 24-30. While a good idea, and possibly a useful tool for retailers, isn't this a bit short notice? Even a "free promotional information package which includes event ideas and a fill-in-the-blanks press release" would benefit from having enough time to tell consumers about it. Still, a good idea, but it has me worried that the Origins Awards will have a rushed feel to them as well. Of course, any feel at all to the awards would be a step up over last year...

True Dungeon truths for '06

The lowdown on True Dungeon's gameplan for 2006 has been announced, along with a video peek of the enhanced adventure for this year, Escape from the Spider Cult. The massive live dungeon-crawl event will benefit from increased volunteer training, improved props and environments, and 5.1 stereo surround sound. Other adjustments and improvements are in the press release (below), but one that may bite them in the ass is giving "dead" players the option to hang around and watch. Oh sure, you'll heal her, but you wouldn't heal me two rooms ago! Find another ride home, buddy!

Foolery round-up 2006

Yes, there were more April Fool's Day jokes this year from various game publishers. Some didn't fool many, others fooled only fools, while certain hoaxes fooled just about everyone. Meanwhile, we cave dwellers ignored all such foolery and converged on EndGame for some roleplaying, boardgaming, and mad dashes to the parking meter until finally clued into the best lot to use.
